ABOUT MY INTERNSHIP

Hi! I'm Cameron, Director of Resident Events
This Summer I have been fortunate enough to serve as the Director of Resident Events for the Rise at Northgate in College Station, Texas. The Rise is a luxury style apartment complex owned by GMH Communities and located across from Texas A&M University's campus. Part of my job this season has been to create enticing events and experiences for all of our current residents and incoming prospects. I have faced various challenges but use my adaptability and skill set to cater to the brand. Along the way I have gained immense knowledge on what it means to plan and professionally execute successful events for varying crowd sizes and an array of members of the community. I have also been given the opportunity to travel to another property in GMH Communitie's portfolio, Academy 65, in Sacramento, California, to lend a helping hand to the staff and gain expertise in leadership.

Although my internship here at The Rise is not yet over I have accomplished a variety of goals and obtained an array of new skills. My favorite successes this far include being selected to aid a struggling property in California, creating a long term plan for resident events and initiatives, and establishing a well crafted events program at The Rise for future lease terms. As for the skills and knowledge I have gained from this experience, there are almost not enough words to explain. Before this internship I knew I loved planning events and challenging myself, but I did not have any idea what skills were needed to execute a career in event planning or to lead a team. Now I can confidentely say that I am capable of carrying out an array of diverse events and programs from the first thought, through to the final stage. I have put on around ten large and small scale events here on the property, all of which challenged me to think outside the box from what had been done for events in the past. Ultimately, I have acquired a new perspective for the field I am pursuing as well as the skills I need to be competitive in the work force, through experience you can only get on the job and in the thick of it.
